Facebook Hearts BuzzFeed

bigcrush:

Sharing tools like this one that provide realtime analytics will and are changing how we need to think about pushing content — for users and marketers alike :)

Facebook Connect creeps me out to the max. It’s great for marketers, who have their content spewed across everyone’s profile page and newsfeed. It’s great for anyone who runs a website, because a) ditto, and b) it’s an easy tool to encourage user-submitted content without having them set up accounts (actually, that’s a double-edged sword since you lose potential registrations) and get automatic real-name accountability.

But for users, I think there is more downside than upside. Do you want everything you write on any Facebook Connect-enabled site, every comment etc., to show up on your profile, and spread to all your friends’ newsfeeds? I thought not. Do you even realize it’s happening? Do you know what settings to use to limit it?

Things like Facebook Connect are making the service great for marketers and spammers, but annoying for average people who think social media is for social connections, not brands.

The next big social media platform that succeeds Facebook needs to be a non-profit.
